About Me

Hello! welcome to my photography website.
I hope you enjoy browsing around  this site, looking at my photographs. If you have any questions you would like to ask then please do not hesitate to get in touch via my contact page.
I am based in Warwick in the West Midlands..
Photography and videography have been a big part of my life since my schooldays. I first became interested in photography at the age of 14 when I started using the school darkroom at lunchtimes and after school to process and print my black and white photos. I used to photograph school events and sports and used many photographs in my coursework.  I never took photography as a one of my formal subjects but became self taught from books like the Ilford Manual of Photography.

My father is also a keen photographer and taught me many techniques and skills especially in our home darkroom, a converted utility room between the kitchen and garage. My equipment at that time were 35mm film cameras. Starting with a Cosmic Symbol, then a Praktica and then an Olympus OM1. At this time I also had a Vivitar 283 flashgun and tripod. Eventually the OM1 was swapped for an OM2n which I still have today.

Whilst away being a student and studying for my degree I continued to shoot various events and student life for the student newspaper.
After graduating I settled in Leamington Spa, got a Bronica SQA and Metz CT60 flash and started shooting weddings on a regular basis for a local photographer. Usually covering an entire wedding with 60 frames ( 5 rolls of 120 film). It was also around this time that I went traveling around Europe for three weeks carrying two Olympus cameras, one with Kodachrome and one with colour print film, with me and being challenged at the Romanian border as tourists were only allowed to carry one camera in those days.
Bronica SQAIn 1985, on the day of Live Aid, I shot my first Wedding video using a VHS Canon camera and separate recorder. That was the start of my videography which over the years has included shooting the weddings with premier league footballer's, music and TV celebrities and royalty being involved but also being a part of  making films about Romanian orphanages and many theatrical and dance performances. The technology has changed throughout that time moving from VHS to SVHS to DVCam and in 2010 I moved over to Canon  DSLR and GoPro cameras.  The editing of video has also changed from tape to tape copying to digital computer editing using Final Cut Pro X.
Gary Dagnalll1-2I love to just go out with a camera and shoot the things I see around me. That may be scenic landscapes, sports, buildings or people. I have traveled to Australia and Iceland and shot over 5000 frames each trip using three cameras. My current projects include macro, product and studio portrait photography.
